Boot your PC from your Rescue Media, and use that to restore the image you captured onto your newly installed SSD. Shut down your PC and install the new SSD. Capture an image of your source disk to a file that will be stored on the external hard drive or network share. If it still fails, then normally my guess would be a problem with the new SSD or (more likely) the adapter, since I myself once had a SATA to USB adapter that crashed only under heavy write traffic, except that you said you'd already done this successfully, so a failure between then and now seems unlikely.

If you haven't already, you may as well try setting up the clone job from scratch rather than reusing a definition file. I unplugged the adapter from the SSD and the laptop, plugged it back in again being careful to make sure both ends were securely seated, verified that the drive was visible, and ran the clone operation again. When I did I got the error "Clone failed - Error 8 - Write failed - 55 - The specified network resource or device is no longer available." I checked the file explorer to see if Windows still saw the SSD and it did. I did that with no problem (using the same definition file) but noticed that at the same time a Windows update had decided to install itself so to be safe I decided to create the clone again. However I became busy with other things and during that period enough changed on the laptop that I wanted to make a new clone so I wouldn't loose anything. I also got a Crucial adapter to connect the SSD to the laptop via a USB port.Ī month an a half ago I used Reflect to make a clone with no problem. I'm trying to clone my current 1 TB HD so I can replace it with a Crucial MX500 1TB SATA 2.5" SSD I bought for this purpose.
I'm using Macrium Reflect Home Edition on my HP Laptop 17-g161us running Windows 10.
